For this project you will be thinking about the concept of “structural matching”
(Utilize pages 65-67 in the packet for ideas/help here.) Your final creation can include any and all sounds you wish as long as you have a motivation, purpose, idea and/or theory you are trying to communicate.
1) Part One: You will bring in one tangible object or visual stimuli to class. Choose this item carefully as you will be writing a two-page description of what that object’s soundscape is and what it means to you. Think about memory, emotion & other sensations that are conjured up for you. Think about that objects ‘vectors’ and how they translate into sound. Your object may serve only as a catalyst propelling you into a voyage of audio discovery. That is ok, as long as you can describe this.
**Your object and the two-page description is due in class on Tuesday January 29th.
(You will be showing your object to the entire class on this day)
2) Part Two: The second part of the assignment will be to create a soundpiece under one minute for that object. Your object may be included as a visual aide with this project or you may just have your project stand alone as an audio work. Either way, I expect lots of imagination and creativity. Along with the finished product (which can be played from the computer, DAT, CD, web, whatever…) you must submit a description of what production type problems/ solutions you encountered along with a final statement about what the soundscape/project represents.
**Your soundscape is due in class on Thursday February 14th.
(We will have our first in class critiques on this day – attendance is Mandatory!!)
