heia sandy !

the texan summer is killing me, and it hasn't peaked yet, i know. shit.
i'm paralyzed by the heat, and things are going slower, s-l-o-w-e-r.
hope u're doin well on the coast, or wherever u are. i have thought a
lot about or conversation and contacted some people about it - i bet u
already have your information together. since the new media sequence
demands a master's degree for the phd sequence, and me being so close to
this title in germany, i have decided to go back in august, and apply
for either fall 2000, or even later. i wanna wait and see what's gonna
happen to u, too, and keep open the option to meet at ucsc, which would
fulfill my dream of living on the oceanside. but i'd love to stay in
contact, and participate in actlab discourses, from time to space and
back to time.

anyways, as i had mentioned, i would like u to write me a letter of
recommendation that i want to use for grant applications in germany, and
possibly for a phd application at either ut or ucsc, but also very much
in general to prove an academic record. it should contain

- where, when and under what circumstances u met me
- how long and in what capacity u have known me
- an evaluation of my academic performance
- your general impression of me
- a summary of my work, or a rating in comparison to other students with
equivalent training
- and maybe good wishes for the future

i hope it is possible for u to write such a letter; please let me know.
it would be swell to have it on official ut paper. BTW, i will contact
horace newcomb and eric gould for such paperwork, too. i will leave the
states on august 8th, so there should be enough time, hopefully.

all the best for now,

steffen p walz
