Hi all,
I'm Jeanna Rice and a senior in the RTF department. I'm focusing on
screenwriting right now but am interested in pretty much every aspect of
film. Any way I can get in to the industry is good to me. Recently, I've
been aching to learn more about new media, especially exploring the
presence of discrimination (if there is) and representation on the web. I'm
hoping in this class to talk about the meaning of constructing alternate
identities on the internet. Mostly I'd just like to learn about what ways
issues of gender have or haven't changed over time. What real progress has
come aside from developing theories and joining groups? I suppose I'm
speaking more of representation and discrimination of women because, well I
am one dammit.
Anyway I'm leaning toward a short video project for the final. I haven't
fleshed out anything substantial yet but the wheels are turning. If anyone
has access to editing equipment please let me know.
Did anyone read about the case right here in Texas (big surprise) about a
woman (M to F) who is suing a doctor for malpractice in the death of her
husband? Well, the defense is arguing that she cannot legally be a widow
since she is a transsexual and since gay marriages aren't legal in Texas.
The verdict should be in in a couple months. What a frustrating world we
live in.
See ya in class,
Jeanna
