Immediately after project one, I had a conversation with Drake about "words". (This particular conversation may be one he doesn't remember, but seeing as how it was the starter for my next project, I certainly do)

We talked for what couldn't have been more than 20 minutes about the weight of wording and the choices that creative folks have to make in their medium. I couple this conversation with the way I felt THE MOMENT I heard Sandy say the phrase "The Zip-less Fuck". She was talking about Teledildonics and I was way more interested than any guy should ever be about the topic in question. Yet, the moment the word "fuck" left her mouth, I instinctively looked around the room to catch the reactions of people who surely heard her say the same thing. The myriad of facial expressions I saw was the last bit of creative inspiration I needed to start making my second project. And because it took Sandy SPEAKING the word to illicit the response she got, I knew that I only had one option as to the medium I would use.

It was four years ago when I first heard of the UT Speech and Forensic Team, and since that first Saturday of watching them do what they do, I've been fascinated. To me, it was music set to a new rhythm. It was poetry without ink. It was pop culture, and the classics, and Dave Eggers, and Otis Redding. It was a constant stream of something I found heart-stopping and pretty. So I had to try my hand at it.

So finally, I married my love of Jesus with an art He created. I crumpled in some 22 year old theology that folded neatly next to the medium I was working with and I prayed over every pen stroke. I checked for truth in this project. I wanted it to give glory to Him and I wanted people to see Him through the poetic ramblings of a senior in college. I suppose that success in these areas may never be known by me while my lungs are still moving up and down, but I've made my peace with that. I had an absolute ball standing on a table and speaking love and truth.

My intent is not to offend you, if you're about to listen. But I don't mind so much if your feathers are ruffled for a great cause. Just maybe, this will stir your affections for Him.

So through the words of poets and authors like Ernest Hemingway, Norma Louise Baxter (my gorgeous grandmother), and my brother Josh... And through the words and music of Jason Mraz and Extreme (Yes, I mean the 80's hair band)... I present to you...

Christianity and Profanity: Cuss Words as a disruptive technology...Give it a listen.
