01 - monster chronicle
background:
My first foray into sequenced electronic music production with Nuendo. I chose to work with Nuendo because it can handle both 2-channel and surround mixes, so in the future I could remix my work in a surround mode without major modifications. Absynth was used as the primary synthesizer because of its flexibility; it can work with samples and oscillators influencing each other in nearly unlimited combinations. It is especially well known in the realm of video game music production, as it can produce anything from fractal-based ambience to straight square synth sounds.
about the music:
This piece was influenced by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein at some level, although I was not aware of it when I began composing. The piece is a linear progression that depicts the birth, rise, eventual fall and burial of a monster (or demon) that slowly realizes itself and its own inevitable marginalization as something Other. All will be clear when you listen!
