HEARTS
THE AUDITION |

For my first project I knew that I
definitely wanted to do a
performance. I have been in love with acting and theatre since a
very young age but never pursued it at the college level (except for
Freshman year when I was in Vagina Monologues). Not really
knowing anything about ACTLab I signed up for this class because it had
the subject heading, performance. Therefore, it was only
appropriate to do a performance piece to kick the semester off.
After the first few class meetings and particularly after we did the mask exercise I realized that the class as a whole was nervous and a bit reluctant to perform in front of each other. I didn't like that feeling at all so I wanted to do a performance that conveyed a message along the lines of, there is not such thing as perfect and everyone should take a chance. Working with those messages as the foundation of my project I found three different monologues and developed three completely opposite characters to perform each one. The setting for the three different performances was a high school audition for the play Romeo and Juliet. Each monologue performance was supposed to represent different students auditioning for the role of Juliet. It felt really good to perform again in front of an audience. I had forgotten the rush you get when you are on stage pretending to be someone you are not, it is a blast! |
