• Doppler Horn |
| This is my mother committing a drive-by. I just wanted a realistic car pass with horn, and ended up with a nice science project on the Doppler Effect. Recorded with my DV camera standing next to the highway. |
• Newspaper |
| Yet again, for the final project: This is me in the bathroom rustling a newspaper. HEY! No! I wasn't doing that! You're disgusting! Why would you think that? The bathroom is the only quiet place in my apartment & newspaper rustling isn't very loud... you're sick! |
• Organ |
| I needed some church sounds for my final project, so here is a clip from Holy, Holy We Adore Thee, as played during a wedding I taped. The organ is way way way too loud, and it completely drowns out the singing, which is interesting. |
• Marriage |
| Another church sound, this is the pastor saying the traditional "We are gathered together..." Sounds from this wedding make me cringe, b/c the customer kept wanting things changed every time we sent them a "final" copy. We ended up redoing it about 4 times. I know the sound quality on this is horrible. Somebody stole my camera cord, so this is going through the headphones jack and about 4 adapters. I'll swap the sound out when I get another cord. |
• Barn Owl Scream |
| I needed a bird sound for my final project, and found this barn owl screaming on some nature website. It almost doesn't sound like a bird, which is perfect. |
• Talking |
| This was recorded one night when a few of us were sitting around "helping" friends work on their engineering project. Actually, we had long since gotten bored and had taken to trying to fuse rubber bands together using a lighter. Then Ben's dad came in. -- This has several good laugh sequences, much better than the canned stuff on sfx cds. On top of that, it brings back memories of those simple, do-nothing nights that are so much fun. |
• Laughing 2 |
| Another clip from my home video collection. This is a great laugh after someone had just been hit in the face with a clothespin... i think. From the same video as the above sound. |
• Sliding Shoe |
| My shoe on concrete. Could be a missile flying overhead (project 2). Recorded in a giant concrete shop using an Azden cardoid running through a mixer straight into the computer. Fun acoustics in the room, but you can't hear much of them in this clip. |
• Metal Shelf |
| A good explosion noise made by hitting a flimsy metal shelf. (project 2). Same method as above sound. |
• Coins |
| Nickels and quarters dropped on a hard surface. Imitation of shells dropping from a gun (project 2). Recorded with an old cardoid mic plugged directly into computer. |
• Shot |
| This is actually my backpack full of books thrown against a tile floor, but could be a gunshot (project 2). Used my camera mic. |
• Rocket |
| A rocket (missile) launching. For possible use in project 2. Found this on a nice friendly website with lots of violent sfx. |
• Explosion |
| Wow.. yeah. That's an explosion. For possible use in project 2. |
• John Denver |
| I grew up on John Denver, so I actually like his music, but this clip is too funny not to have. |
• Blender |
| This is a blender from back in the 70's. It's got a nice power-down noise. Plus, it's lime green. I was hoping to use the wind-down noise as sfx for a robot or something. Recorded with a cardoid straight into computer. |
• Bed |
| Loud creaking noise. I found out my bed sounds like that because the box springs are not springs at all, it's just a wooden frame (cruddy cheap apartments). This noise used to wake me up when i rolled over, so now I sleep on a matress on the floor. |
• TakeThat |
| My roommate drags his toe across the floor of the kitchen & it makes a strange rattling noise. Afterward, he usually yells "Take that, 914!" (which is the apt. below us). Last year, it was "Take that, 713!" when we lived in Jester. Fun stuff. If anyone ever came up to complain about it, we had planned to say, "No dude, we don't know what it is, but it's REALLY loud in here." |
• Heater |
| Ahh, my precious cat heater. I think I may be cold-blooded, cause I can freeze in the mildest weather. I call it the cat heater because my parents bought it many, many years ago to keep our cats from getting too cold in the garage. Reminds me a lot of being a kid out in the country with all of our cats, which could also be the plot for a cheap horror movie. |
• Chair |
| This very old chair squeaks quite a bit. It was my grandmother's, and I am quite attached to it. I don't think the girl living below me likes it so much. Recorded with a cardoid. |
• Kid Laugh |
| Two very young children in Mexico laugh when they see themselves in my camera's screen. Recorded, obviously, on my camera. I get all those warm fuzzies from this sound... such cool kids. |
• Radio |
| This was a commercial playing on the radio in a shop in Acuna, Mexico. It also has the background noise of people in the store. There's something about ambience that I just love. To most people this is worthless background noise, but just a few seconds of noise bring back all the memories of that trip. |
• Message for you |
| Believe it or not, this clip from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (where a servant gets shot with an arrow containing a message from the prince) means a lot to me. It was the sound my computer made when I got new email my freshman year. It either meant an old friend was sending me a nice note, or that I had some spam. |
• Over The Rainbow |
| A 1939 (or so) recording of "Over the Rainbow" as performed by The Four King Sisters
with The Rhythm "Reys". My dad found this while we were digging through a box of records to use for Project #1. I recorded it with a mic in front of the Victrola. Not only does it sound cool, it reminds me of a good friend. |
