Much of the theoretical basis for this project comes from this web-site by a researcher named Susan Higbee who doesn't appear to have a scientific background. She makes a claim that a phenomena called "Spontaneous Involuntary Human Invisibility" (SIHI) exists, and, there are a number of people affected by it. On this page are a number of personal accounts of the affected, claiming that in some situations they have become completely transparent and inaudible.
What would cause something like this to happen? Or, specifically, my goal is to find how does this happen and can it be controlled, so that a person could become invisible at will. From these peoples' accounts no mechanism was involved during the process of becoming invisible. So, automatically I think that there might be a disturbance in the magnetic field surrounding them possible altering the wavelength of visible light hitting them. But, wouldn't this affect the other people around them? That is a major flaw in these personal accounts.
Higbee goes on to give examples of cultures that have texts of invisibility. For example, Indian yoga masters claimed to reach invisibility through meditation. Sorcerers and magicians in the thirteenth century performed acts in which they became invisible. Higbee also mentions a Masonic leader named John Macky, who, claims invisibility can be achieved by "surrounding yourself with a shroud, which is described as looking like 'a cloud'." Apparently people even witnessed Macky's invisibility on several occasions.
So if invisibility is real, one could perform it without any devices besides the human mind. It isn't said exactly how one does this. But what about the idea of invisibility machine? This brings us to the Philadelphia Experiment, a.k.a. "Project Rainbow." In 1943, with the onset of WWII, the U.S. Navy allegedly performed an experiment with massive generators that would cloak an entire navy ship in a kind of mirage. This would be quite useful for the military. If we had an armada of invisible ships the Navy would be unstoppable. Unfortunately, the specs on this project were kept top secret; nobody is really sure if this actually happened or not.
Invisibility is undoubtedly weird. Magicians can perform certain illusions of invisibility, but that is simply a trick. Can we control such a powerful phenomenon?
