Before drawing each picture, I searched google

images for inspiration, and to make sure my

depictions were fairly accurate

 

This often proved to be frustrating.

No images,for instance, match the search: Fetal sharks

eat each other.

No such luck.

 

Pligrim at Tinker Creek, a series of essays by Annie

Dillard, also provided me with much inspiration in

making this project. It is a staple at our house.

 

 

Here are a few initial sketches

My idea of how they should look evolved as I created

them. They began as simple black line drawings, then

increased in depth as I added a grey brush-tipped pen and

some white acrylic paint.

 

I wanted the pictures to have a very text-book look for

the slideshow,but to retain a painterly quality for the

display, so I scanned each one into photoshop and applied

poster edges for the powerpoint.
