THE LOW-DOWN
THE GOOD
This ended up working out as a narrative (who knew?)
THE BAD
The sound quality is a little lacking, thanks to my crude recording methods involving a TV, VCR, DVD player and Hi-8 camera.
THE MONEY
Only cost me ten bucks at the video store!
THE STORY
It all started with a dream... literally. A few months back, I was tossing and turning in my sleep, having a dream about graduating and moving on to Los Angeles... and so was born The Good, The Bad, and the Money.
And then came along the opportunity to put the ideas out there in fabulous stereo, thanks to the Convergent Media department at the University of Texas at Austin. I thought about it for a little bit, and realized that the best way to convey these thoughts would be through clips of other films and popular music. I wanted to convey the idea of a lengthier movie trailer. Only this time, it would be 'just for the radio", so to speak.
So there I had it-the basis for the piece. But what's a movie trailer without rising and falling action? I had to come up with a little story by which I would structure The Good, the Bad and the Money. And so with that idea, I delved back into my tiny little brain and thought of a nice narrative structure.
The Good, The Bad, and the Money ended up being a tale of hope, despair and the temptations that coexist with leaving the friendly confines of college and moving out into the so-called "real world".
With all this in mind, I ended up making an 8 minute and thirty-three second noise opus, using Final Cut Pro and combing clips from some of my favorite movies, and a few of some old CDs I had lying around (The Doors' "The End", Vivaldi's "Winter", "Pomp and Circumstance"). Enjoy!
