The Gallery

I know the video is small and long, please bear with me. Feel free to pause, rewind, fast forward, or whatever you need to do in order to digest and enjoy this material.

I have explained each object below, it may assist your viewing of the gallery.

#1 Negative statements about Transsexual, transgender, or ambiguous persons. The quote above Sandy Stone's picture is taken from Janice Raymond's article "Sappho Surgery: The Transexually Constructed Lesbian Feminist."

#2 "Learning to hate the things God hates." Fun Fact: I took this photo in my hometown, Mesquite, one weekend while I was visiting. I drove past it and HAD to pull over!

#3 "Racism is over."

#4 "We are a gender-neutral society"

#5 Prop 8 California Marriage Protection Act. I zoom in on Matthew Shepard's picture from the newspaper.

#6 The American Girl. In case you can't see, there is a picture of little pageant girls, pin-up girls, anorexic women, and headlines about sexual violence against women.

#7 Katrina pictures. "Now tell me the truth, boys, this is kinda fun?" -Tom DeLay, talking with survivors at the Astrodome.

#8 KKK head

#9 "This is America they need to learn English"..."Chinese, Japanese, whatever they are all Asian"..."A-rabs are terrorists"

#10 Police Brutality.

#11 "[Barack Obama] has a deep-seated hatred for white people...I'm not saying he doesn't like white people...This guy is, I believe, a racist." -Glenn Beck, three sentences said in the same minute as each other.

#12 The American Dream. Logos: Halliburton, Blackwater, ExxonMobil. Pictures: Bernie Madoff and a TV evangelist selling a prayer.

#13 Censored.

#14 War on Drugs. Various slogans used in the campaign.

#15 Swastika.

#16 Janice Raymond. She wrote "Sappho Surgery: The Transexually Constructed Lesbian Feminist" which is about Sandy Stone, my teacher. Raymond is a Lesbian Feminist and in my opinion her article was very transphobic.

#17 I Love Reality TV. The images are of famous couples that have broken up after being on TV. This is my only object with a comment on media and I could have made a stronger point, but...shrug.

#18 Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 granted American Indians Tribal Sovereignty. Despite if you don't favor this act or the reservation system, I hope you can agree with the point I was trying to make here. By law, American Indians are sovereign, but the government does not respect their own law. They intrude and perpetuate the American Indian condition.

#19 D.E.A. Drug Enforcement Agency. Strategically placed next to the "Indian Reorganization Act" object.

#20 "Brown vs. Board of Education: desegregation" The maps show Austin 2000 demographics data. The majority of African Americans live on the east side of I-35. Low-income housing is all on the east side. Poverty Rates are higher in the east side. And the higher income levels are all in the west side. I am trying to prove that we are not segregated. It would have been a stronger point if I could have found a map showing the Austin schools and their scores, because it would have shown the disparity in the quality of education.
