The Bee Keeper




INPIRATION: A Tori Amos song.

Tori Amos has a song called The Bee Keeper, where she uses Bees as a metaphor for death. I really enjoy the song and the story behind the lyrics are very moving.

PROCESS: I listened to the words very carefully several times, and I also printed out the lyrics. Then I painted two pictures that were inspired by this song

STORY: It is about a young girl whose mother is dying and she is begging the Bee Keeper, who is “death,” to keep her mother alive. First she offers her mustard seeds, and then she offers herself for the place of her mother. The Bee Keeper responds by informing the young girl that she will only take her when it’s her time, but to be aware that one day she will come for her because death is inevitable..
