Second Mini Project |

Notes on project | In frustration and anxiety, I was inspired to make this close-up video. My original idea was to create a mix using Reason, but when I couldn't acheive the kinds of sounds I was wanting to create, I dug for alternative. In a basket of wires and old computer equipment, I found my webcamera that I purchased almost 8 years ago. I also saw my dusty viola which I hadn't played in several months. I warmed up my fingers and started improvising. I placed my Olympus digital recorder on my desk and began recording an impromtu, gut-inspired, intuitive composition. Immediately afterward, I plugged my webcam into the machine, and began playing with close-up images of my face and body parts. I was thinking about LSD experiences and heightened senses of reality when under a hallucinogenic trance. Since Premiere was fouling up, I used Windows Movie Maker for the first time and pieced together a narrative about sensual consciousness and the yearning for experience. I had orginally thought this project was completely ridiculous and sounded horrible, but with the enthusiasm I received from my class peers, I changed my opinion. I realized something extremely important: I wanted the insecure ego to die off and make art, make stuff without judging my work so harshly that I cannot see the beauty and innovation within my ideas and pieces. For this website, I created the film into a flash movie with this vein like frame. Media used: Logitech WebCam, Olympus digital recorder, viola, Windows Movie Maker |
