Project #1
For my first
project I decided to discuss the aspect of material possession that is
associated with death.
My motivation for
the project came from inheritance from my great uncleÉ I of course was to put
this directly into the bank (and not into the laptop I had been looking into
getting for the past year.) Thus I created a piggy bank of items of which I had
received.
The best part of
the project was creating it, and if youÕd like to see the process, feel free to
click on the picture to the right for a photo tour of creating a papier-m‰chˇ
animal of your own.
Items within my
bank include the following:
-
Envelope that
carried inheritance check
-
Dog collar
from my precious puppy, Scout.
-
Copy of
yearbook page I had to make for a friend who died in a car wreck
-
Death
certificate of my great grandfather informing the family that he had committed
suicide
-
Roadrunner
pin that represented my grandmotherÕs travels
-
Diamond
necklace left behind from my grandmother
-
A multitude
of pictures of my grandmother, puppy, great aunt, and others who have passed
away, but will always live on in my mind.
The reason I
chose a piggy bank was in effect to display how I had been holding in my
memories, in a bank, scared of ever thinking about them, or sharing them, or
even accepting that they exist. I wanted to be dramatic and throw the sad
attempt for a pig on the table, with the contents scattered about for everyone
to see, but decided to be less messy and just use a knife to slaughter my piggy
bank, exposing my memory entrails.
