Concepts

These are the concepts we discussed in the class: "When Cultures Collide: Technology & Representation in Digital Space"

What defines a culture?

Culture are made up of many components, for example, language, art, trash, fetishes, care for the dead, shelter, and religion.

What are virtual communities?

Virtual communities exist in digital space. They are made up of members that congregate regularly and share a common ideal, hobby, philosophy, or whatever. The members of these communities can remain anonymous and even non-existant in physical reality, for instance chat-bot technology. Caution: Identity is fluid in digital space.

Guest lecturer: Sarah/Vivian

One of our classes included an interesting lecture by Sarah, who has an alter ego named Vivian. As Sarah, she is a normal graduate student, as Vivian she is a seductive woman who may strip at a club, or cause havoc as a vampiress in her role-playing group.
