The Feles-Butere Antigravity Engine
The world’s first
true antigravity engine.
Scientific Connection
- Francis Bacon said that nature
was like a woman, in that if she did not reveal her mysteries willingly, one
must take them by force.
- And, since science has not yet wooed away the
mysteries of gravity, they must be taken.
Fictional Connection
-Douglas Adams has mentioned in
his Hitchhiker’s Guide series a device known as the Infinite Improbability
Engine, which operates by making outcomes other than the one intended
infinitesimally small.
-Fly-by-wire systems operate by the same essential
principle, and are faster and more responsive than traditional steering
mechanisms.
Therefore: Anti-gravity technology is simply a matter of pitting two gravitational laws against each other so that neither can happen.
Gravitational law #1: Any buttered substance (e.g., toast, bagels, muffins,
etc.), when dropped, will always land buttered side down.
Gravitational law #2:
Any healthy cat, when dropped, will always land on its feet.
Optical Biocomputers
Idea thanks to Trey Smith and Dr. Cameron L Jones. You can get CDs drunk by
pouring beer on them and then leaving them out. Stacatto clicks as well as odd
jumps in time forward and back.

Scientific Connection
-Small-scale computing solutions, microcomputers and nanocomputers, and the
solutions they can provide are becoming increasingly important in the future.
- Dr. Jones 'optical-biocomputers' are the most likely candidate for actual
nanomachine research.
Fictional Connection
-Everyone in class kept promising nanomachines and showing up with sand in plastic
bags and pictures of video games, so I decided I needed to come up with some
small-ass machine.
- When I came across the Swin.edu site, I almost pooped myself.
Public Service Announcement
Drugs. Legal and illegal. For all smartasses out there who want to chime in
about the DEA's Drug Analog Act: it doesn't apply to anything I've mentioned
here. You should read things more carefully.
Scientific Connection
- Read Archaic Revival or Food of the Gods for a thorough
scientific explanation.
- There was discussion of various drugs in class, and I just wanted to set the
facts straight.
Fictional Connection
- This was done both as a joke and as a serious PSA.
- I guess it depends on whether you think it is offensive or funny.
