The Purpose of this project was to explore death as a transformative process. In this case the process was a simple hair cut.
Everyone goes through transitions and rituals. Certain little motions that help shed an old persona and to move on to a new one. Some people get a piercing or tattoos, have a mid-life crisis, buy a motorcycle, take a vacation, or move to a new home.
For me, I die several times a year. It’s my way to become a new man. I shed the stresses, the worries, the nightmares, and the hair. I cut my hair and things flow better. My perspective is renewed and so is my lust for life. Life requires a continual quickening or it will result in the death of the mind, spirit, and imagination. New experiences provide the continuance of youth and satisfy the necessity of the soul. One must thrive on change, not drown in it. And, in that way transition, and death, are a necessity.
