Wizard Toys: The Power to Play

So the idea for this project came from this art project that Brandon and I have talked often about: Creating a playground for children that stored energy from play and then glowed at night. The more fun the kids had that day, the longer the playground would glow. For my final project, I wanted to make some indoor toys with that as an inspiration.

For background I looked at:

I came up with my own original design for both the Sit-and-Spin and Tricycle toys that combine crank-powered flashlights with child toys to charge flashlights.

This project is made with:

  • Crank-powered flashlights bought from Amazon.com
  • A Sit-and-Spin, bought from a thrift shop
  • A Barbie children's tricycle, bought from a toy shop.

The flashlights were duct-taped and/or soldered to the toys in unique ways to use the energy generated from the toys' intended play function to charge the flashlights.
