My third project began when I purchased a language immersion software packet from a used book store. The box was in spanish, but offered over 102 languages for you to be introduced to. I thought I'd give it a try. After opening the files and taking a look at their layout, I realized that it would be an interesting experiment to try and hack and turn into an installation. However, there are 102 languages, which one to hack? I figured the best audience to approach would be hispanics, since the box was in spanish, and there are many hispanics here in Austin that want to learn english. I opened up the American english tab and began to relink images and audio files that would then appear when interacting with the software.
I decided to replace many of the words with popular rap song excerpts. I thought it would be a shock for anyone who purchasesd the language software to be bombarded with lil wayne, notorious B.I.G, RichBoy, Snoop Dog, and a few others. Or maybe the urban phrases might find their way into Austin on a permanent scale. hehehe
here is a short example of me using the software.
