INTRO
The box! Our personal development as people has always been seen as a war between nature and nurture. What we are is a grand composite of our influences and our genetic makeup. These are fairly accepted notions of who we eventually turn out to be. The postmodern gothic class shed light on a interesting added facet to this discourse of personal development which is what we want to show about ourselves. The concept of the monster roots from the word montrent in French which means ‘to show’.
I thought about this fragile disposition of finding your inner self, the self you want to expose in order to contentedly move on. What was interesting was finding that one singular element which can be seen as your self, and after much thought I realized that I could not strip it down to that singular element and there were a few conflicting elements that made myself. I wanted to capture that specific moment of being confused and lured by finding your different monsters and having to choose one over the other.
