Extreme Freestyle Hacking

For my final project in Extreme Freestyle Hacking, I wired

my old Stanton SK-2F Ltd. Turntable mixer together with a

DigiTech RP50 guitar processor. Please refer to the pictures

below for visual documentation of the creating process. In

doing this project, I began by taking apart my mixer and

trying to find a place where I could put the RP50’s chip. I

found a good empty spot at the front end of the mixer. I

then took apart my RP50 and removed the chip. The processor

was controlled by two push pedals. Using a soldering iron and

some wire, I rerouted the circuit’s positive and negative

responses to two buttons that I purchased at Radio Shack.

Now whenever you wanted to change the channel on the processor

you could use the buttons that were wired to the processor

rather than the pedals that I removed. I then put some cardboard

under the chip so that it would be steady. I drilled two holes

through an empty part of the mixer and attached the buttons

here. This served as a convenient location to control the pedals

for the processor that was now inside my mixer. Then by purchasing

the appropriate splitters and cables etc., I was able to make

the pedals effects function with any audio that passed through

my mixer. In the end this had the effect of having my own KAOSS

Pad built into my mixer and I was very happy with the cool

variation of effects. I’m glad I had an opportunity to do

this as a final project because I feel that I have taken two

instruments that I would have probably never used again

otherwise and have recreated it into something totally

new that I will be excited to explore and use on a regular basis.
