This happened on my birthday.  I hit a car on a motorcycle.  The diagnosis was a severe hemotoma of the thigh.  The doctor got a good laugh out of my third buttock.

Neutrophils and Macrophages, both types of white blood cells, work in conjunction to heal the bruising.  They use chemotaxis to track down and eliminate foreign bodies.

This happened back in February.  Now it’s December and the bruise still has not completely gone down.

When there is an infection, pus forms around the area.  These are dead neutrophils and other cellular debris.  Macrophages clean up pus to aid in the healing process.
