Slashdot.org is a web site where people come to be inundated with Geekness and discuss geek issues among their peers. The layout is news/news board discussion style. Each post is usually either an external article or a post deemed worthy of front page attention. There are over 10 "main" sections within slashdot for specific news dissemination The current ones are:

Each of these sections have their own "splash" pages that offer current posts pertaining to the topic, however when you access slashdot.org, you are accessing a culmination of news from all the sections.

Below is a screen capture of slashdot.org's splash page, as you can see (note click on image for full resolution) the layout is very text heavy with 3 major columns, the left is navigation, center is news and right is advertisements and polls/other stuff.
