Hi Sandy-
I made a scale model of your roof today with a scale of
1/2"=1'0" and at the appropriate 4 in 12 pitch roof.
If possible I would like to drop by again to more
accurately measure the roof. I 'll have my own tape
and 8' step ladder, so you need not be home if that is
alright. The reason I want to fine tune the dimensions
is that I believe we can get by the the longest guys
wires being just about 48' long. I want to make sure
before I proceed. My model should give us good
accuracy if the dimensional input is correct.
Also, I would like to fully extend the mast on the
ground and get an accurate dimension for each guy wire
station. I noticed that the mast anchor for the roof
has a
hinge pin/point. We should be able to fully extend the
mast horizontally on the roof and attach all the guy
wires at their proper location, then literally push the
entire mast up, and then attach the bottom guy wires
first, and so on. I erected a 100' tower in the
Feather River area, and the first 40' we pushed up in a
similar fashion. In fatc, that is the reason for the
pin on the flange you have. I believe this is a 4, and
preferably 5 person event.......1 person for eash guy
station, and 2 people to steady the tower while the
series of guys are attached. With the use of my
model of the house and tower, we can have a 10 minute
briefing and a mock up of the sequence of events and
avoid any confusion or discussion of methods DURING the
actual raising. To be safe, the operation must be done
promptly once it has begun, and everyone must know what
their job is understand what the other persons are
doing.
If there is to be any discussion as to how to do this,
it must be done ahead of time, not while the event is
unfolding. There are probably 10 ways to do this job,
all of which will work, but we have to coose one method
ahead of time and stick to our plans.
Once I have the dimensions I need and do the calcs,
I'll let everyone know what length guy wires we'll
need. Your 50' rolls will definately be used. I'd
like permission to proceed with mounting the main roof
support bracket for the base of the tower and any
brackets once I find or make the ones I feel
appropriate for the fascia boards/ridge beam. I will
always bring my own ladder/tools, so you need not be
there if that is okay also. I would like to get that
bracket from you, or stash it outside where I can get
at it. If you'd like, give me your phone number, and
I'll call before coming over. Trying to schedule my
time is difficult, but sometimes I'll get a couple
hours where I can get stuff done.
