Dear dr. Stone,

thank you for your comments, I totally agree on your statement about the
limitation of the bandwidth, and I would like to make this the starting
point of project.

Limited bandwidth should be turned into a cognitive advantage, rather than
vice-versa, as it is the case with most web-TV Internet sites today.

The idea behind Barbara's project is to establish guidelines for the design
of a human-computer interaction for a web-site which broadcasts images
collected from digital cameras placed outdoors (natural parks), which can
be either at a fixed location, or mobile, associated, possibly to
microphones to broadcast also voice and sounds.

In the case of most existing web-cam Internet sites, perception of still
images, updated every 10-30 seconds, in the best cases, is very boring for
the user and all the excitement potentially deriving from the
tele-presence, is lost because of the sharp decrease in attention by the
user.

In general Barbara should concentrate on how to present contents, either
available from the outdoors sensors (digital camera, digital microphones,
GPS, etc.), and off-line material about the contents (archives of the
above, stories, pictures, text, etc.) in such a way that the user's
interested is kept high throughout the interaction and the overall
interaction is entertaining.

The identification of a strong and natural metaphor of virtual navigation
in time and space of the contents should be one of the goals.

To conclude, I would very much appreciate your involvement in the project,
which I believe can represent a contribution both to the understanding of
the up-coming merger between TV, as we know it, and the web, and the new
notion of TV via Internet as a way to explore the physical space.

You comments are very welcome.

Best regards.

Francesco Gardin
