For your consideration,

Here is the formal stuff:

My name is Nathan McGowan. I am entering the last semester of my
undergraduate education, and thus far it has been a terrific experience.
In addition to the many friends I've made and stimulation I've received
through lectures and assignments, I've also received occasional
recognition from the University which has made the experience richer.
Last year I was a Jesse Jones scholarship recipient and also named a
'distinguished scholar' for maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout (it is
currently at 3.925). In addition to my coursework, I have worked
professionally in internet-related business for the past 4 years. Last
year, in addition to full-time studies, I worked full-time as Monsterbit's
general manager. Monsterbit was named 'Best New Media' company by the
Austin Chronicle in 1997, and it was my pleasure to pick up all day to day
production, development, and client responsibilities for the 1998-1999
year. Most of this work involved the design of web sites and live
internet broadcasts of concerts and other special events. I am currently
on sabbatical from Monsterbit and under contract with Human Code and
Thinkwell, local new media companies in Austin.

Now the informal:

The above was included to emphasize that I am a dilligent and responsible
student and New Media professional. However, I am also a social maverick
who prefers to avoid the formal. In all honesty, my primary reason for
wanting to take this class is personal. I first read about you in Wired
Magazine several years back, and while I felt the magazine didn't scratch
the surface of what appeared to be a fascinating mind, was the first
indication that you were someone to learn about. Well, I have since read
further work of yours and you were the primary reason I enrolled in the
New Media sequence when it came time to pigeonhole myself in the RTF
department. Imagine the disappointment when you took a one year leave!
Well, such is life, and while I wish your film and other endeavors great
fortune I would be greatly chagrined if I graduate this semester without
seeing what a Sandy Stone class is all about! I offer a two way street as
well - I am a provocative participant in all my classes and if I do say so
myself am always appreciate by my professors. I know all my professors
from last year - Janet Staiger, Tom Schatz, Eric Gould, and what appears
to be our mutual friend Mocha Jean - would attest to this.

Please consider throwing consent my way (:

Also, in doing so, could you please verify whether or not this class
truly meets the 'cultural component' requirement? The course schedule is
confusing. If it does, I would like to drop another class I have that
meets this.

Best,

Nathan McGowan
