Every November, I participate in a voluntary hell known as National Novel Writing Month, or "Nanowrimo." It is quite literally what it sounds like-- you write a novel. In a month. This year, I didn't even come close to finishing, because my wonderfully crafted characters were the least motivated, most apathetic... yeah, I had terrible writer's block.
The experience got me to thinking about creativity and how it is a perfect example of a blackbox: one moment you are thinking about thing one and then, boom, thing two is in your head. Creativity is all about that moment of insight, the "Eureka" moment. And that's what I was trying to illustrate with this video: a strange moment of creative insight and the long, painful wait before it.
