Here I was think about Oedipus and the idea of tearing one's own eyes out. I think conceptually that is a powerful image, and tried to create a world that might induce such a horrendous act. After completing this and having time away from it, one idea that draws me back is the question as to where the hero came from. Is he a bystander who climbed to these heights to escape the swarms, or is he simply the first soul out of the swarm to reach the top and clean himself off? Either way he has turned his back on the sight, and cannot handle the consequences of his actions.
