Flash Mob Definition | Types of Flash Mobs | Flash Mob Uses | Examples of Flash Mobs | |||||
Flash mobs were not initially formed as a means of a political platform, but on some occasions have been used in that fashion. Recently the flash mob 'scene' has boomed in other countries. In Moscow, a flash mob was created to voice anti-Putin sentiments. This is one of the latest in a series of politically charged flash mobs worldwide. A political flash mob can draw quite a bit of attention to itself if placed in the correct location or at the correct time. Well publicized mobs usually end up being broken up by police intervention, but a cause can spread the word quickly via television coverage of their mob. In the recent Democratic primaries, flash mobs sprang up around the country in various forms to spread support for Democratic hopefuls such as Howard Dean. These mobs were not organized by the political hopefuls themselves, but by normal citizens with a mission to increase visibility for his or her favorite. Recently accusations have been made on some larger corporations creating artificial flash mobs in order to drum up publicity about their stores. Some of these supposed flash mobs seem to appear out of nowhere to the 'experienced' flash-mobbers and end up taking place with little-to-no problems in large chains. This newfound publicity creation tool is still under scrutiny by the flash mob population.
