Cuba

For my final ACTLab project, I discussed a subject that is very near and dear to my heart: Cuba. During the Summers of 2004 and 2005 I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel to Cuba on mission trips. In 2004 I got the idea to bring my small camcorder with me and videotaped about 9 hours worth of footage. This project is a collage of video clips from those 9 hours set to music (don't worry, my project is not 9 hours long).

You may be asking yourself, "What does this have to do with Death?" Well I sat down and thought about all of the ways death ties in to Cuba. Castro's promises of a free Cuba have died long ago as his tyranical dictatorship has grown stronger over the years. The U.S. embargo on Cuba is killing its people rather than weakening Castro. It seems like only the death of Castro will bring an end to his regime, and once that happens, many people may die because of the shifting government structure.

With all of this negativity surrounding Cuba one might think the people living there would be submerged in depression. On the contrary, in spite of all of these things working against the people of Cuba, they are resilient and lead full and complete lives. This video is a testimony of that resilience and a tribute to the Cuban spirit.
