Protection

 

Being proactive and taking measures before someone Evil-eyes you is the best way to go. There are two methods of protection: Spitting and beads.

Spitting works best in situations where you know the danger of the Evil Eye is eminent (sort of like going to a country you know you might get some strange disease). So, if someone tells you look great, show someone something you think might get jinxed, or you tell someone about something good that is about to happen to you, be smart and ask them to spit on you/it.
A simple "ftou ftou ftou" will do.

Beads are so that you protect yourself from situation and people you might not be aware of. There are three kinds of beads:

a) Large, flat, glass beads, in a blue color with an eye painted on them.

These can be hung in the home, or on the rear view mirror of your car.

b) Small eye beads or simple plastic blue beads.

These are worn on you. They are pinned at the back of babies, while everyone else will usually wear them on the chain alongside their baptism cross.

NOTE:
Since the Evil Eye is accepted by the church, your best way to protect yourself is to combine the power of the beads with a Christian cross or other religious symbol, such as a medallion of a saint.
