Taking a block of wood and forming a face out of it was quite the challenge.

My first step was carving the nose, and this took much of my time. I sanded for 3 days to get the exact shape and form of the nose that I wanted. When that was done...

I went on to stair down the rest of the wood. So, there is no mouth. The steps of wood would allow me to layer up each segment of wood that I liked.

I then went and found the wood in a nearby park. Lots of deadwood and treebranches supplied me with the things I needed. I bought a lot of moss and straight wood at Michaels to fill out the texture.

The wood was then placed on each step and glued and stapled into the wood. My final touches were using the found deadwood and bark and layering it across the face for some texture.

His eyes are actually a piece of bark that was a knot and I split into two and gave him eyes.

I would like to one day start and try to see If I can create a mouth by carving it out.

Otherwise I'm quite happy with it. The thing is about 4 foot by 5 foot. It's very large and very heavy. One of my masterpieces.
