Entering the gates at Auschwitz, my entire thought process was simultaneously overwhelmed and turned upside down. Instead of seeing as much as possible in a single frame, the smallest details began jumping out from everywhere -- ice, frost, trees, bricks, sky, barbed wire, and so on.
