when i was conceptualizing my first project i was thinking of painful transitions. movement through chaos and back toward some semblance of homeostasis. movement away from socially constructed ideas toward a more raw, and open existence. the movement of my body and breath through yoga propelled me forward during one the most difficult times in my life. and although my emotions and even my bodily functions were sputtering and refusing to get a fucking grip, movement snatched them up and pulled them along until they got it together.

to signify my struggle and the movement which remedied it, i relied heavily on gloria anzaldua’s notion that, “rigidity means death.” anytime we define ourselves, place ourselves into boxes, we cease to exist in the liminal, that dynamic state that often yields the wondrous.

i recorded myself on my iriver, set the recording to arvo part's music, and made a movie with google's picasa using photographs that my best friend larissa swindle shot of me over a weekend. we shot close to five hundred photos and of those we narrowed it down to fourteen that best suited the project.
and voila!
