Project 3
Emotions & Emotional Expression
(Dance)
Through this class I have grown and now have a greater appreciation for expression and breaking the mold of ideology. Also, I again wanted to do a completely different type of project. My logical thought was to move from film, to art, and now finally to dance. So, in my last project I really wanted to attack the idea of the way people express their emotions…the blackbox of emotions.
College for me has been an emotional journey full of highs and lows. In analyzing these emotions even deeper I realized the real blackbox surrounding emotional expression. Emotions cause a build up of energy; yet a build up of energy causes emotions.
My hopes through my final project was that everyone would be able to reflect on their lives just as I have and think about the different emotional highs and lows that they have experienced. What caused them? Where did they come from?
Sometimes people cry for no reason, but sometimes there is a reason. Sometimes people cry because they are sad, but sometimes it’s because they are happy.
There is always something known with emotions. You know what you feel at a particular point in time. The more important thing to think about is where did this feeling come from and how do you handle these feelings.
To be honest, I consider myself a very emotional person. The problem is that I am very reserved in sharing my emotions with other people. I tend to let all these feeling and emotions build up inside of me to the point where I do not know where they came from, what they mean, or how to move on to thinking about something else. That is why dance is so important to me and the reason that I chose use dance as a representation of this blackbox of emotions.
For me dance is a way that I am able to release all of my emotions and energy. Since I am very careful with words, it’s my way of communicating to the world what I am feeling and dealing with in my life.
We all have emotions…this we know. We don’t always know where they come from or how we can express them. Some of us may let them build up to the point where we feel like we will explode. So, I encourage people to experiment with dance as a way of emotional expression.
