Uncanny Projects by Lauren Pruitt
As a child, I never had a porcelan doll or one of those creepy cabbage patch kid dolls. The reason for this is the fact that lifelike toys creep me out. I find it uncanny that children can be so easily amused by a small replica of humans that sits in their bedrooms and watches them whie they sleep at night. I could never wrap my brain around that.
For my first project, I used makeup pallets for both procelain dolls and china dolls using my friends face as my subject. I used this project to depict the creepiness that I can see in the way that makeup can be used to make dolls look like humans and vice versa. These makeup pallets made a normal face look flawlessly unreal and these faces can be found in the bedrooms of four year old toddlers around the world.
