Here are a list of programs you will need to create your website:

File Transfer Program: A file transfer program takes the files from your computer and will load them up to the server. Here is a list of typical programs used:

Apple: Fugu (free)
PC: SSH (available from bevoware) or WinSCP3 (free)
Linux: Terminal

HTML editors: A HTML editor is used to create your web pages in HTML. Here is a list of editors we recommend:

Apple: Macromedia Dreamweaver (30 Day Trial), Mozilla Suite, NVU (google it)
PC: Macromedia Dreamweaver (30 day Trial), Mozilla Suite
, NVU (google it)
Linux: Mozilla Suite, NVU (google it)

Photo Editor: You can use a photo editing program to resize photos as well as change file size and types.

Apple: Adobe Photoshop CS, Gimp 2.2 (free)
PC: Adobe Photoshop CS, Gimp 2.2 (free)
Linux: Adobe Photoshop CS, Gimp 2.2 (free)

Video Compression: Videos that go onto the ACTlab server must be compressed before they can be uploaded. Our current compression scheme is Quicktime Streaming, preferably Sorensen. You can compress with Sorensen through : Avid, Discreet Cleaner, Final Cut, Quicktime Pro PC: Adobe Premiere Pro/6.0, Discreet Cleaner.

A free alternative way to encode your videos is to use VLC, which is available at www.videolan.org. The schema we require is *.mov file format,

Video: mp4v 384 (scale so that your video is roughly 320X240),
Audio: mp3 128, 2 channel
