STS331 Rhetoric of Cyberspace
Interpretation

A Hispanic? and Slashdot

So did I identify with the people on slashdot culturally? Did I feel like everyone else has tamales for Christmas dinner and weddings where all the uncles get drunk? Well not exactly, but I did get the feeling that culture in general was lacking; other then geek culture of course. The geek culture in slashdot.org is full force, wikipedia defines a geek as:

“a person who is fascinated, perhaps obsessively, by technology and imagination.”

I find this definition to coincide with slashdots content and general direction. Unlike in my gender section, I do feel that geek culture is not necessarily dependent upon race. I feel that geeks are more dependent on culture in general rather then the color of your skin. For example, there are many races within geek culture, though in the US, white Caucasians seem to be the staple, geeks live all over the world and are all types of nationalities and ethnicities.
