An East Coast lady through and through, I recently relocated to Austin to attend graduate school in the Performance as Public Practice Program in the Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas. I left behind beautiful Brooklyn, friends, family, a fabulous boy --my partner and amazing theatre artist, Eamonn Farrell, a fabulous band --queer country campers Ménage À Twang, and a boring day job and near-career in the music biz.
Among other things, I consider myself a performer, a scholar and a teacher. I view theory and practice as inextricably linked, and I find my critical work always informs my creative endeavors, just as my creative work enriches my more academic pursuits. As a scholar, I use queer and feminist theory as lenses for examining contemporary avant-garde performance, representations of masculinity, popular culture, social and political protest, and new media. As a practitioner, I use performance to investigate many of the same interests. Sandy Stone’s Trans class afforded me the time and resources to try filmmaking and editing, and this semester, I started my investigation of the feminist uses of media and technology in live performance through the series of projects described and documented on this site.
