Dream-Scene Diaramma

Home : Project 1 : Project 2

My goal for project 3 was again to create a type of dreamscape however this time I wanted something more representative of actual reality as my dreams are often extremely realistic. To this end, I chose to create a diorama out of a dollhouse-type box and many different kinds of building materials. As the dollhouse was made entirely out of brown papier-mâché, it needed much work before it would become even close to representative of reality. I spent many hours decorating the outside of the house with bricks and shingles as well as snow and Christmas lights. Even the ground outside of the house was planted with pine trees and covered in snow. I wanted the project to have a cozy idealistic feel from the outside. Inside the house features flowered wallpaper, burgundy carpeting, an easy-chair, a television, and even a house plant. I attempted to leave no details unnoticed, even the ceiling is covered in fancy white molding. To this polished and idyllic setting, I added a scene of horrific gore. A mother and her two children and shown in various stages of dismemberment and blood is splashed all over the room. The attacker is not depicted in the scene because often in my dreams I desperately fear something that I cannot see. I often believe that thing to be a man hiding outside of my darkened house. As much an experiment in diorama-building as an exorcize in dream therapy, this project took the longest but was the most enjoyable of the three.

Sadly in my mad rush to get to work after

presenting my project, I left it on the bus. For this reason I

was not able to photograph the inside of the diorama for the website.

With the provided description however, perhaps imagining the

scene will add to the project's ability to represent the reality

of a dream on an individual basis.
