We watched Ghost in the Shell in class and discussed what constitutes identity and being, as well as what forms it. So for my third project I decided to deconstruct my own identity. This project was really difficult for me because it's so hard to know where to start and even harder to discover and break apart one's self. First, I had to decide what to represent. I read up on the subject and for the most part, people break identity into what basically amounts to mind, body, soul/being and experience/memory. Second, I had to decide how I wanted to represent this information. I decided to do it with paintings and artifacts for two reasons: 1) I have never painted anything before and wanted to try something new and 2) I liked the idea of art museums and how each work preserves a little piece of the artist forever. I went to Hobby Lobby, purchased about $30 worth of art materials and just start making things at random until I had a collection, and hopefully, a good representation of my own identity.
