Hyperbase performance
About the song Andreas Leonardsen and I decided to collaborate on our final projects. It is called the Hyperbase, and it is about a fictitious base within a mountain that we will all go to when the world goes to hell. In the event of nuclear war something like this would be potentially viable. The idea was developed through a song that we made on the way to San Antonio. Andreas had just borrowed a baritone ukulele and it was the perfect size for the passenger seat, and He just messed around with some cords and we began to sing. We liked the little bit that we had developed and thought it could work well for our actlab final. After working on the lyrics on and off for about a month, we decided it was time we started to practice with more instruments. We had some good friends at the Pearl Street co-op who really liked what we played, so getting some people together wasn't all that difficult. The version we performed had a baritone ukulele, viola, drums, trumpet and an accordion. Andreas and I did the singing. We looked for costumes that we felt captured the essence of the Hyperbase, which would be along the lines of tight fitting white full body suits. We found them in China. We decided to present the Hyperbase as if we were a company attempting to recruit members for our base, so we made some handouts with application forms and dressed up in our suits, secretly concealing the newly arrived Hyperbase suits beneath. We stripped during our presentation. I think the transition worked well. People seemed to enjoy the song too. The future certainly holds a lot of weird science, as can be seen from the more detailed description of the Hyperbase within the lyrics. We felt the Hyperbase inhabited some obscure nexus of time where we could toy with whatever science we saw fit, however, the song was in part inspired by an actual seed bank created on Svalbard by the Norwegian government. I guess the apocalypse isn’t all that unrealistic after all. lyrics to Hyperbase: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When hellfire rains from the sky I'll be safe and sound in my mountain side. The only safe place for the human race is deep inside my Hyperbase. We got 14 women for every man so we can populate the world all over again. We got all kinds of seeds that we may need to start the world anew. Ecology is what the world will need. With help from the finest eugenicists all the members have been handpicked. All precaution must be made to ensure the purity of the race. We got our very own army of robotic men that will battle anyone that tries to get in through the door that is 97 inches thick and the only way it opens is if you sing. Completely independent of the sun, we have acres of crops that grow on their own inside a vast cavern at our ranch, with horses cows and chickens, pigs and kitty cats. The horses do the plowing and the pigs give us meat and cold fusion provides the heat as we stay vigilant and procreate and wait for our glories fate. The day when we emerge we'll claim the world. Its our Hyperbase deep within a mountain. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hyperbase Dynamic Nexus Application Forms
