Fingerprinting Portrait
The technology of fingerprints have been around since the existance of our fingerprints. However, it was not until the 14th century that researchers found that all fingerprints are not identical. In the late 1800s researchers studied the various patterns in the fingerprints, and by the early 1900s we began to utilize this technology in the Crime Investigation department.
Fingerprints were used to identify people before DNA technology was developed, but even still, fingerprints are the most commonly used in crime scene investigations.
I decided to take this piece of my identity and create a self-portrait entirely of my fingerprints, taking the meaning of a self-portrait to a whole new level.
You can see the individual print impressions close up, and it creates a unique texture even from far away.
I also noticed while working on this piece on the floor, it looks more like me from an angle, kinda like road signs painted on the freeway.
I did not use a projector in this process, I just drew it by hand from a picture, although it would probably come out more similar i didn't want that technology to take away from a personal self-portrait.
