For the first project, I decided to make a book. Then I decided that was a little intense, so I decided to make a children's book. For this project, we were supposed to "step out of our comfort zone" a bit. A children's book may seem too easy for someone who writes and draws a lot, but if you only knew the trouble I have actually completing these things... then you'd understand that this book was really a stretch.
I titled my book "What Color Am I?" which really has little to do with what the book ended up being about, but it sounded good. The book was all about gender stereotypes and how you don't have to necessarily conform to them but you can if you want to, yadda yadda yadda. I planed it all out in a very sophisticated way, then sketched each page in pencil, went over the text and pictures in ink, and finally colored everything by hand because I can't use Photoshop. I had some minor difficulty with staples, but other than that it ended up fairly well.
I hope one day lots of kids will read my book and freak out their parents! Or, you know, figure out that gender is a construct of society and doesn't have to be the sole builder of their identity.
