Outside of class, I am a member of the Texas Dragon/Lion Dance Team where we perform many acrobatics and stunts for the Austin community for various ethnic and cultural events, especially during Chinese new year. We also brainstorm new ideas and inventing new tricks, to make our performances more exciting. I felt that this was a good story to cover for Actlab, considering how many of our silly ideas are conceived and how we constantly put our lives on the line for the sake of a good performance. I personally think we can perform without presenting a significant danger to other performers. I always spend time planning how I would train new members to perform these stunts, especially the jumping techniques, and consider the time and dedication that must be put in to the stunts. Some of our members go overboard and, well... let's just let the video speak for itself.
In regards to planning and dedication, I'm confident that I can teach a stunt without anyone getting hurt. I'll always refuse to train anyone for a stunt if there's a slight chance that an accident may occur. For instance, before I showed this video I grabbed a fellow classmate and performed a lion dance trick where I lift her up into the air and have her sit on top of her head, not letting her or the class know what I was going to do ahead of time. The years of Lion Dance training was a result of a successful stunt. Thanks again Katherine Shanley for being brave and having a lot of faith in me.
